REGULAR VERBS - A REVISION OF VERBS in the PRESENT TENSEThere are three groups of regular verbs in French.
We recognise each by their endings in the infinitive (Their names)
ER verbs end in ER in their name/infinitive. Examples - travailler, écouter, aider
IR verbs end in IR in their name/infinitive. Examples - Finir, rougir, choisir
RE verbs end in RE in their name/infinitive. Examples - vendre, attendre, répondre, perdre
Each of these verbs has a set of endings that you use to conjugate the persons of the verb (Je, tu, etc.)
For ER VERBS For IR VERBS For RE VERBS
e is s
es is s
e it nothing
e it nothing
ons issons ons
ez issez ez
ent issent ent
ent issent ent
To use these endings is a simple task
Go to the infinitive - remove the er - ir - re and add the endings for each:
Donner Finir vendre
Je donne finis vends
tu donnes finis vends
Il donne finit vend
Elle donne finit vend
Nous donnons finissons vendons
Vous donnez finissez vendez
ils donnent finissent vendent
elles donnent finissent vendent
Remember that every verb used in the present tense can mean three different things:-
Je donne ---- I give --- I am giving ----- I do be giving (Not exactly correct English)
